I’m a huge fan of text games. Iron Realms runs a good selection of online text games, including Achaea – a medieval role play world with an interesting economy and a complex class system.
You can play Achaea in your browser or you can download an special application – such as zMud or cMud, to play it with. Most people start the browser way and then upgrade to a standalone client when they feel that they’ve outgrown the browser plugin.
Achaea is a free role play game – there are microtransactions, but you can do pretty much everything in-game without spending any money, which is always good.

If you play the Lord of The Rings Online, you’ll love this offer – especially if you’re a F2P player that purchases quests as you go. There’s a 24 hour sale starting at midnight that’s going to feature three zones — the Lone-lands, Evendim and North Downs — with a massive discount – 75% off the quest packs! Considering that these three zones are where you spend most of your time from 20-39 so it’s a great idea to snatch them up for just 386 TP instead of the normal price of 1540 it would cost.
The best news is that if you do the deeds in these three zones, you’ll end up with 550 TP – so you’ve made a profit on TP by buying the packs!
Definitely check it out if you’re a free-to-play LOTRO user.

The Ubuntu Women Project is organizing a special competition for World Play Day. If you have daughter under the age of 12 who loves computers, this competition is ideal for you.:
A pivotal issue within computing cultures of today is the overemphasis on boys and men as the primary consumers of technology. Children learn by example and since the majority of media images consist of boys playing computer type games and girls playing with stereotypical princess type dolls; this contributes to the lack of involvement in science and technology by our young women.
It hurts us all to have this subconscious of pigeonholing of our children, and to help counter this for Ubuntu’s community, we would love to have a collection of examples of young girls (toddlers through to 12 years old) playing with — and loving, and being encouraged to pursue — Ubuntu. This would allow parents of girls to demonstrate that it really is ok to be intrigued by the shiny screens, blinking lights, tappity-tap of keyboards, and faint whirs of computer fans.
The girls do not have to be alone in the photos, and photos taken prior to this announcement are eligible. We are not expecting any particular pose, but we would much prefer candid shots — they say SO much more. We do prefer that the images come at a large resolution, in a standard format (JPEG, PNG) and not embedded in documents.
Please email your photos (or links to flickr, etc.) to ubuntuwomen.competition at gmail.com by UTC 23:59 14th of May 2010.
